What is the preferred material for solid linings (to be laminated)?

Are there materials that would be better suited for use at the top, and others better suited for use at the back?

Aspen? Basswood? Poplar? Maple? Mahogany?

Any material to avoid "like the plague"?

Would you recommend flatsawn material (ease of bending, less likely to crack) or would that defeat the purpose of making extremely stiff linings?

Thanks,

Dennis

Dennis,

I've been using basswood with good results. I cut it into strips about 0.100" thick before bending, then I laminate them on my bending mold. This seems to work pretty well.

Best,

Michael

Walnut, oak, birch, luan....

Any free-bending wood will do.
